At UWM, a Platform Architect plays a crucial role in designing the self-service platforms that support our development, testing, and production environments. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our self-service platforms, enabling teams to deliver high-quality software in a rapid, repeatable way. Your work will involve close collaboration with various teams to utilize various automation tooling and methods to create interfaces for teams to consume, such as an IDP (Internal Development Portal). UWM is a fast-paced environment where systems are deployed frequently, and we’re looking for a candidate that is passionate about collaboration and execution. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Design, develop, and maintain solutions to streamline platform automation
  • Implement and manage polices that govern our self-service platforms
  • Collaborate with Development, Security, and Operations teams to identify and implement automation opportunities while advocating for best practices
  • Monitor and troubleshoot platform processes to ensure reliability, performance, and security of platform services
  • Work with the DevOps, Infrastructure, Cloud, and Data platform teams to create self-service initiatives that will accelerate IT deployments
  • Document platform automation processes, scripts, and configurations to facilitate knowledge sharing while mentoring less experienced team members
  • Encourage and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance platform engineering practices and processes
  • Ensure High availability and resiliency of self-service platforms
  • Ensure that all platform solutions comply with internal security policies and external regulations.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to improve platform capabilities and efficiency
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and team members to understand requirements and deliver valuable platform solutions

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Must Have:
  • Ability to work 100% on-site in Pontiac, Michigan
  • Computer-related degree or equivalent experience 
  • 7+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Automation Engineering
    • Proven track record in integrating development and operations, with a focus on automation
    • Hands-on experience automating client-facing solutions
    • Scripting experience in PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.
  • 5+ years of scripting and automating large and frequent tasks
  • Understanding of Full Stack development
  • Advanced troubleshooting knowledge and techniques
  • Ability to implement solutions in different languages and build maintainable solutions by following best practices
  • Curious mindset that asks “what if” above all else
  • Elite client experience as the root of all decisions
Nice to Have:
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker
  • 2+ years of application development experience
  • Familiarity with Internal Development Portals (IDP)
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Dynatrace, etc.
  • Understanding of networking concepts such as load balancers and CDN services
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Chef or Puppet
  • Familiarity with managing platforms across multiple cloud providers
  • Experience with serverless technologies such as Azure Functions, or Google Cloud Functions.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, ability to work in a team-oriented environment, and a proactive attitude
