The Underwriting Summer Internship Program at United Wholesale Mortgage provides a valuable opportunity for students interested in the financial and mortgage industry to gain practical experience in mortgage underwriting. Interns will work closely with UWM's underwriting team, learning the intricacies of assessing loan applications and gaining valuable insight into the decision-making process.

 

The Risk Management Summer Intern will assist the Risk Management team in identifying, assessing, and mitigating various risks associated with UWM's operations. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in risk analysis, compliance, and operational assessments within the mortgage industry.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

UNDERWRITING

Underwriting evaluates borrowers' ability to repay loans, ensuring compliance with investor guidelines and regulatory standards. Underwriters review credit, income, debt, collateral, and funds using automated systems for consistent quality.

  • Create reports and present findings to Senior Leadership.
  • Analyze data to help the business as a whole.
  • Create and enhance training materials.
  • Assist our Underwriting Training team with classroom enrollments and other various data projects.
  • Analyze hiring trends and their impact on the team.
  • Work in Microsoft Office products and PowerBI
  • Create reporting dashboards to be used by Senior Leadership.
  • Facilitate fun and friendship activities for the team.

 

RISK MANAGEMENT

  • Assist in conducting risk assessments and evaluations for various business operations and processes.
  • Support the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures.
  • Conduct research on industry trends and best practices related to risk management.
  • Help analyze data and prepare reports on risk exposures and mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on risk management initiatives.
  • Assist in the monitoring of compliance with risk management policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by members of the Risk Management team.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2027 or 2028 (current junior/senior status)
  • The ability to work Monday through Friday, 40-hours a week, fully on-site in Pontiac, MI from May 17th - August 6th
  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field
  • An openness to learning, willingness to be coached, and ability to be flexible in our every-changing industry
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment
